Receiving a well-deserved accolade: the 2022 TIDA New Zealand Imported Kitchen of the Year award, Matisse’s latest Jervois and Lawrence penthouse apartments project is the epitome of imported luxury design.
Providing inspiration, ideas and information to the housing and commercial markets for over 30 years, Trends International Design Awards searches for a ‘wow moment’, an interior that provides an insight into design and technology trends. A wide range of this year’s submissions expertly presented a mixture of colour, texture, and timber, highlighting the moves towards creating an entertainer's dream that simultaneously displays the highest quality finishes.
Paul Taylor, the TIDA judging panel chairman, comments on the abundance of timber finishes which characterize the cabinetry, walls, and floors with warmth and charm:

"A second point to note – particularly in this year's winners and runners-up – is how the most successful kitchens are treated very much as furniture pieces," Taylor says. "And while function is always paramount, these kitchens have also been designed as an integral part of the wider interior design scheme."
The Jervois and Lawrence project can only be described as a showstopper. Finely crafted and beautifully installed, the kitchens feature a stunning display of Arclinea’s American walnut cabinetry. The technical and practical precision of Arclinea’s range is an innovation of shape and space. Founded in 1925 in Caldogno by founder Silvio Fortuna Senior, Arclinea’s relationship with renowned Italian designer Antonio Citterio has evolved into the production of revolutionary collections such as Convivium.
A large open-plan living space provided a challenge, uncomfortably split by a building riser. The exceptionally resourceful team overcame this obstacle by seamlessly implementing Convivium Elegant Canaletto American Walnut Tall and Wall units that expanded across the full width of the back wall, a decision that was a standout feature to the judges.
Aligning with the spectacular view of the harbor, Stopsol bronzed glass was used in the back wall work area, both on the backsplash and two symmetrical panels beside the extractor above the cooktop, creating an endlessly opulent reflection. The Convivium Lacquer Absolute White under bench units of the working island side contrasting brilliantly with the expanse of timber. Extending onto a perpendicular wall of the living area, the timber reflects the natural feel of the building’s surrounding landscape.
The entire experience of the space has been considered, including a separate scullery with additional space saving storage solutions and bench area. Heat and scratch resistant Dekton Sirius benchtop and Gagganau appliances represent the captivating attention to detail and devotion towards quality.
Overall, the fantastically crafted kitchen fully integrates into its expansive settings, merging both the interior and exterior spaces. This Italian imported design ticked all the boxes for the judges as well as leaving the clients with a timeless home bursting with flawless finishing and top of the line systems.
