Cengiz Civan was able to create something from scratch, the long experience with clients’ and industry’s expectations and the courage to dare new ideas made him transfer his trades experience into creative work.

Born in 1975 in Haan, Germany, to a Turkish guest worker, Cengiz Civan took an unconventional path into furniture design, navigating detours and self-discovery without formal training. Uninspired by traditional education, he left his studies and began selling plaster sculptures, eventually developing his own collection. This led him into the jewelry business, where he expanded his expertise in design, sales, and gold jewelry production.
A chance opportunity drew Civan into the furniture industry, gradually shifting his focus away from jewelry. Taking over an insolvent furniture business, he built a thriving enterprise from the ground up—without capital, but with perseverance and a keen understanding of customer desires. His breakthrough design, the Sequoia Bench, reimagined the dining sofa, transforming it into a welcoming and versatile centerpiece for the home. Today, Civan is recognized as a leading figure in the industry, known for his instinctive approach to design and business.
