Eileen Gray created not only some of the most important furniture classics of the 20th century but also had her own studio where rugs were produced according to her designs: masterpieces of abstract textile art made of 100% pure new wool, hand-knotted and processed to the highest quality. Designed for the Salon of her Villa E1027, the Centimetre Rug highlights the number 10 with a mysterious code – a nod to the tenth letter of the alphabet: J for Jean Badovici, with whom she designed the Villa Maison au Bord de Mer E1027. Numerals and icons – such as fragmentary elements of everyday objects – can be found in Eileen Gray’s rug designs of the later 1920s. They are allusions to her wide interests encountered in her creative life.
300 x 200 cm
Rug made of 100% hand-spun New Zealand virgin wool. Hand-woven with 80 knots per square inch (6.45cm²). Environmentally friendly colour pigments, tested according to OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100.Â
