A visionary of modern design, Eileen Gray was an Irish architect and designer whose work reshaped 20th - century interiors and architecture. Blending Art Deco elegance with minimalist innovation, she created enduring furniture and spaces that remain influential today.
Her most celebrated work, the E.1027 house, built in 1929 on the French Riviera, was a bold statement in modernist architecture. Designed with Jean Badovici, the house became a symbol of creative independence, later complicated by Le Corbusier’s unsolicited murals and overshadowing presence.
This fascinating story is told in E.1027 - Eileen Gray and the House by the Sea, now screening at the Resene Architecture & Design Film Festival, alongside the short film Her Blueprint, Aotearoa.
