• The Berlin-based design studio Formfjord was founded by Fabian Baumann and Sönke Hoof in 2006.

Formfjord has stood for functional industrial design and agile product development from Berlin since 2006, founded by Fabian Baumann and Sönke Hoof. Fabian has studied Mechanical Engineering at TU-Berlin and Industrial Design Engineering at TU-Delft - Netherlands. Sönke has studied Product-Design at Kunsthochschule Berlin and at École de Design Nantes - France after his apprenticeship as an upholsterer. Today he teaches as a professor at the University of applied science in Hannover. Fabian Baumann puts together a selected team of designers and experts for each project in order to be able to optimally support the customer. Fabian is a graduate engineer (mechanical engineering), creative director and head of engineering at Formfjord. He has over 15 years of experience in product development.

From the concept to the finished series product, Formfjord work hand in hand with their customers to develop products that work - on as many levels as possible. Because product development means considering and combining many aspects of a product or a product ecosystem.

Formfjord have built up a large network in the immediate vicinity of their location, which can expand our services in a wide variety of directions. (Metal, wood and plastics processors, electronics and software developers, architects, CI agencies, 3D printers...). This allows them to act very flexibly and tailor their scope of services individually depending on the project.

With a focus on elaborate concepts, straight lines and a smartness in detail the team of designers and engineers develop products that function – technologically and ecologically, ergonomically and emotionally, strategically and economically. Recent clients include Carl Mertens, Leonardo, Lightyears, Magazin, Mono, Nemo/Cassina, Offecct, Serien Lighting, Stelton, Ubitricity.
