Perched on the peak of Herne Bay's northern slopes is the recently completed Jervois & Lawrence project. This urban-style masterpiece is composed of 28 luxury apartments that are breath-taking from the ground up. The natural setting of the private courtyards is second to none, while the penthouse suites' transcendent views are the ingredients to living the dream.
The project involved an extensive level of planning and specification, treating each apartment with the same level of attention to detail and design. The perfect fit for this project was the renowned and internationally recognized supplier Arclinea, providing 28 kitchens at various levels and finishes and further extended to storage areas.

“The initial briefing for the Jervois and Lawrence project was to exude high-end quality and a luxurious use of style.”
Matisse Contract’s specialist Multi-Home division provides superior quality alongside the world’s leading international suppliers for exciting architectural fitouts and interior projects. The Multi-Home Division creates skillfully designed kitchen, bathroom, wardrobe, lighting, and furniture packages.
Arclinea, individualist in its visions surrounding the ‘hub of the home’, forms complex yet stunning visual environments. Each feature of the Arclinea kitchens, attentively refined by legendary Italian designer Antonio Citterio, contains evolving technologies. Spaces are newly formed, equally embracing Italian tradition, local and global trends. Innovative cooking areas utilize space while integrating pioneering functions, shared spaces meet and exceed the requirements of daily creative use.
“During the design stage, there was a challenge in forming a median between a feeling of luxury that also offers a colour palette suiting to the client’s vision. All joinery had been carefully selected prior to the majority of the apartment’s sales, resulting in the final decision between two stunning finish options.”
The Convivium kitchen embodies a seamless interior flow. First interpreted in 2002, Convivium encourages the pleasure of sharing and socializing. The Convivium Elegant door with integrated handle, realized by lengthy product testing, forms a distinctive solution that’s individual to the brand. Combining socializing with cooking, Convivium’s ground-breaking architectonic layout is a unique and transversal design.
“The project expanded beyond the impressive kitchen, extending into the supply and design of wardrobes by MisuraEmme, bathroom vanities by IdeaGroup, and laundries by Arrital.

With these four distinguished brands, Matisse was able to not only meet the opulent brief but also achieve the budget that suited a project of this scale.”
The laundry is fitted out with a Arrital’s AK Project; a company producing modern kitchen solutions for over 35 years. The design harmoniously combines both object and material, the modular system is tailor made for an ergonomic and practical aesthetic. Palo-Alto wardrobes by Misuraemme feature specialist handles, bronze doors, shelving, and considered internal carcass finishing.
“From the start, the builders were not only constructing a building from the ground up but designing a building around the Matisse supplied elements. Every apartment was handled with close attention to detail and consideration as if it were a stand-alone home. All measurements and tolerances in the construction compromised to meet the joinery existing in advance to the open building site visits,

Almost 16 20’foot containers of joinery delivered to the site speaks for the immense scale Matisse put forth towards this project.”
“I was very excited to finally walk into the finished project, seeing all the stunning fixtures finished and looking their best. It once again showed just how lucky we are working with such amazing prominent Italian brands, to be able to deliver and supply not only the quality but the stunning finishes to little NZ.”
Jervois and Lawrence distinguish itself as one of the most ambitious projects completed by Matisse in the past recent years.
Jan Van Deventer
“Once the apartment owners moved in and the feedback flooded in, it solidified everything we do as a company."
"Every week we work on a luxury home, whether it’s supplying furniture, kitchen or wardrobe joinery, each project is unique. However, fitting out 28 distinctive luxury homes all at the same time was a once in a lifetime opportunity. I am not saying we won’t do it again; the next project will be special in its own way and offer a new set of challenges to overcome. That is what sets Matisse in a class of its own, we supply luxury Italian goods, with a luxury feel and finish truly making any project in New Zealand stand out from the rest.”
