His work is exhibited in both national and international collections, notably in Lisbon’s Museum of Contemporary Art and the Belém Cultural Center, and includes two successful personal exhibitions held in 1966 and 1970.

After starting his teaching career in 1969, he headed design courses for over two decades at the Universidade de Lisboa, and has offered guest lectures on greats including Le Corbusier, and topics spanning urban development, innovation, and applied technology in design. Arruda has participated in conferences and fairs around the world, including Milan’s International Salone del Mobile and with his architectural design for the World Expo 1998, held in Porto, Portugal.

He has recently added Interior and Lighting Design to his artistic heritage, and his creations, as well as architectural work and research, have been published in some of the world’s most design influential publications. His Miguel Arruda Arquitectos Associados studio concentrates on sculpture, architecture, and industrial design, and has won competitions and awards alike.

The design for the Vila Franca de Xira Public Library was nominated for Building of the Year in the cultural and public architectural categories by Archdaily, and won a 2016 Iconic Award for Architecture. Throughout his career, his myriad projects for both private and public clients have maintained a longterm focus on urban conservation and sustainability.
