  • The works of artist and designer Olafur Eliasson explore the relevance of art in the world at large.

    Olafur Eliasson, born in 1967, grew up in Iceland and Denmark. He studied at the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts from 1989 to 1995. In 1995, he moved to Berlin and established Studio Olafur Eliasson, which includes craftspeople, architects, archivists, researchers, and more.

    Since 1997, Eliasson's diverse solo exhibitions—spanning installations, paintings, sculptures, photography, and film—have appeared globally. Notable works include The weather project at Tate Modern (2003), Green river (1998–2001), and Your rainbow panorama (2011). He designed the Serpentine Gallery Pavilion in 2007 and collaborated on the Harpa Reykjavik Concert Hall, winning the Mies van der Rohe Award in 2013. Ice Watch (2014–2018) raised awareness of climate change by placing icebergs in public spaces.

    In 2014, Eliasson co-founded Studio Other Spaces with architect Sebastian Behmann to focus on experimental architecture. His social business, Little Sun, founded in 2012 with engineer Frederik Ottesen, provides solar lamps and chargers for off-grid communities. From 2009 to 2014, he led the Institut für Raumexperimente at the Berlin University of the Arts.

    In 2019, Eliasson became a UN Goodwill Ambassador for renewable energy and climate action. He lives and works in Copenhagen and Berlin.
