The Splinter collection is created by a Japanese designer company, nendo. Every piece of the dining chair looks to be splintered and connected to make one chair, which is the origin of the name, Splinter. This collection won the Good Design Award in Japan in 2014.
The Splinter Armchair, which comes in three versions – wood seat, upholstered seat, and full shell – is no exception. ‘We splintered each piece of wood as though peeling it away,’ says the designer, resulting in backrests that elegantly divide to become both armrests and legs, and create a harmonious whole. Respecting the material, Nendo went with the grain, so that the wood would retain its original pliancy.
