Up 50 and Serie Up Collection - B&B Italia

Since 1969, Gaetano Pesce’s Serie Up has stood as a powerful symbol of femininity. The chair's bold curves and attached ottoman evoke both the female figure and the invisible chains placed on women by society.

Over time, Serie Up has become one of B&B Italia’s most iconic collections. It confronts the objectification of women while also honouring the strength, mystique, and enduring presence of the feminine spirit. Its form is both a protest and a celebration.

UP COLLECTION TIMELINE

1969
Gaetano Pesce designs the UP5_6 armchair for C&B Italia, which is characterised by its voluptuous form and the ottoman resembling a ball and chain. The early production original design was vacuum-sealed for easier shipping and would re-inflate upon opening. This version is no longer in production and was replaced with Serie Up 2000 by B&B Italia.

2000
B&B Italia relaunches the series with updated materials. The collection is renamed Serie Up 2000, available in a range of colours and stripes. Browse our Serie up 2000 collection below.

2019
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, B&B Italia releases a special edition of UP 50. The updated finishes include a full striped version, a striped chair with teal ottoman, and an all-teal option.

2023

To honour its Compasso d'Oro Product Career Award 2022, B&B Italia releases a Limited Edition Compasso d'Oro Edition of UP5_6. Only 500 numbered pieces are made, featuring antique gold fabric, a bronze ottoman, and an aluminium chain with a corten finish. On display in Auckland only.
